All it took for Ally to return to Yuletide Creek was the end of a twenty-one-year marriage and the death of her dear grandma who left her the Christmas House.

Ally is tasked with returning the Christmas House to its former glory and carry on her grandma’s traditions of holiday contests, toy drives and much more. But there is one clause in grandma’s will which makes her pause for cause: that her dad will be the sole person to make all repairs to the house. After his refusal to walk her down the aisle all those years ago, there is bound to be awkwardness and the inevitable “I told you so” when she returns to Yuletide Creek divorced.

Maybe she’s in way over her head trying to restore the house and the Christmas spirit to a town near derelict— all the while facing off with a woman who seems hell-bent on sabotaging Ally’s efforts at every turn because she wants the top spot.

Throw in the Grinch of a mayor who is adamant that a tree for the town square and any other decorations is a waste of town funds, her unexpected attraction to the man, her determination to make him see it’s worth and you’re in for an unforgettable holiday.

The end of a twenty-one-year marriage and the passing of her beloved grandmother, who left her the Christmas House, was all it took to bring Ally back to Yuletide Creek.

Chapter One

Her heart raced as the Volkswagen cruised past the dilapidated sign that read, Welcome to Yuletide Creek: population 10,213.
She was back!
But not for the reasons she would have liked. And she couldn’t help but feel anxious about it. Ally had been driving for miles, not wanting to fly because the open road and the fresh air worked more magic than being stuck in the middle seat on a commercial plane for hours.
Also, being back in the place where life began for her oftentimes meant it was time for a visit. But it wasn’t a visit that time. She was back for good, thanks to Gramma. Bless her soul! She passed away six months ago, leaving Ally her house, which had been dubbed “the Christmas House” decades ago.
At least, that’s what everyone in Yuletide Creek named it because Gramma’s house always looked the most Christmas-y. But now she wasn’t around to do it anymore, she thought, as a sigh fleetingly escaped her.
The car rolled past the sign that read Stony Falls Concession Road, and she slowed down and pulled the car over to the shoulder. There wouldn’t be anyone around for at least another mile. The closest house was probably the Milton's farm, which was about a half mile away from town.
She smiled as she recalled fond memories of stealing across their backyard during the summer to get to the creek because that was the easiest route. Old Mister Milton used to chase her and her friends with whatever piece of shrubbery or garden tool he could get his hands on. She laughed lightly at the thought, remembering how he was the very person who’d helped Gracie when she’d tripped over a shovel and scratched her knee while trying to escape.
He’d meant no harm. And neither did anyone in Yuletide Creek. It was like a piece of heaven, which made Ally wonder why she’d left in the first place.
She didn’t have to think for very long— Mark.
And he was the reason she was returning. Her nostalgic mood was swiftly replaced with anger as she remembered the circumstances surrounding the divorce. And she thought of it as her divorce because it seemed as if she was the only married one in the relationship. Mark hadn’t embraced the idea of monogamy and had spent the entire twenty-one years of marriage in other women’s beds.
She wanted to hurl at the thought again. Or strangle him.
Ally slipped out of the car and sucked in a lungful of fresh air. It was clean and crisp, even though it was two in the afternoon. Yuletide Creek was known for always being a little bit cooler than anywhere else— the perfect blend of the sun with the crisp wind.
It wasn’t until she started walking that she realized how stiff she really was. Her joints cracked as she stretched her hands and did a couple of squats and some neck rolls. That was pretty much all the massaging she’d gotten over the years.
With her hands full with daily chores and being the picture-perfect wife, she hadn’t had much time for anything else. And her husband, well, he was always busy. Her jaw tightened with each memory of Mark, but she knew it would take some undoing to come to terms with the twenty-one years she’d spent with him being over once and for all.
The path that led to the creek wasn’t as accessible as she remembered. There was a thick web of overgrowth that wrapped around itself all the way to the ground. She yanked at the vines and ripped a path open, still managing to get a couple of scratches on her hands and feet as she contorted her body to get through the opening.
